A Latin School has four unique facets:
- Latin is a unique school design and instructional approach. We take a structured, sequential approach to instruction and curriculum delivery. Every subject follows a clear three-step process moving from foundational facts and concepts to higher ordered thinking skills. We make great use of the Gradual Release for the Intellectual Work of the Classroom instructional method.
- Latin is a unique curriculum. We focus on core knowledge supported by a clearly delineated set of modern “Great Books” which students read, understand, and master. We have an explicit focus on developing students’ written and verbal fluency to prepare them for future academic success.
- Latin is a unique language. Latin is a critical foundational language of English. Study of Latin supports student vocabulary development and prepares students for greater success in rigorous high school programs and key college entrance examinations.
- Latin is a unique culture. We offer a highly structured school environment, balancing the rigor and joy of learning. By providing a values-based culture, students learn in an environment of consistent expectations. We challenge students academically and behaviorally and create excitement, celebration, and joy around learning and the future.
