Enroll your Child at Latin Academy

Enrollment at Latin Academy is open to any student eligible to attend Atlanta Public Schools and entering a grade that Latin Academy serves as for which Latin Academy has an open seat.  Because Latin Academy starts with sixth grade, the sixth grade has the most seats available to incoming students.  Latin Academy's open enrollment period opened on December 1, 2013 and will close on March 31, 2014.  Any student who submits an enrollment form between those dates will have an equal opportunity to attend Latin Academy.  If Latin Academy receives more applications than seats available for any grade, it will hold a random enrollment lottery on Wednesday April 2, 2014 at 6:00pm at Latin Academy Charter School (1442 Metropolitan Parkway, SW, 30310).

A charter school is a special type of public school that operates on a 5-year renewable contract with a local board of education.  The contract grants the school great freedom over its programs and policies in exchange for strict accountability for its performance.  As an APS charter school, Latin Academy is an Atlanta Public Schools school and must meet its goals for student performance and parental satisfaction to remain in operation.

Why is it called Latin Academy? Is this school only for Latino students?

The “Latin” in Latin Academy refers to Latin the language which was spoken in ancient Rome and is the foundation of modern English.  The name also comes from our unique approach to instruction. We offer a classical education program featuring Latin instruction for eighth graders.  Many of the words of English come from Latin and Latin is particularly important to professions like law and medicine.  At our school, we will always encourage our Scholars to carpe diem!
